10 Ways to Show Gratitude this November

What is Gratitude?

Gratitude is the feeling of being thankful.

 

There are many ways to show family members, coworkers, and customers how appreciative you are of them.

 

Ways to Show Gratitude:

  1. Write a thank you note to someone who has impacted your life in a positive way, whether small or large.

  1. Buy lunch and pass it out to homeless people.

 

  1. Make someone their favorite meal, whether it be your spouse or parent.

 

  1. Simply take the time to open the door for someone.

 

  1. Give a compliment to people you come across throughout the day.

 

  1. If you have the extra funds then donate to a charity or leave a super courteous tip.

  1. Give people hugs because it has been proven to decrease stress levels. Also remember that you never know what kind of day someone is having.

  1. Volunteer at a local animal shelter or soup kitchen.

Giving back to your community and the people you care about is what this month is all about. Don’t forget to thank God for all he has done for you. The month of November is not the only time gratitude should be shown but it is a month dedicated toward showing gratitude. I am a believer that you should show your loved ones and God how appreciative you are of them throughout the whole year. You can never thank them enough.

Last Minute Halloween Ideas

Halloween isn’t only a holiday for children. It can be a holiday for people of all ages, because there are fun activities for all age groups. I’m going to share a few Halloween ideas I think you’ll enjoy, as well as a few last-minute Halloween costume ideas. I don’t go in-depth about the different ideas that I share so you will have to look up the recipes, as well as more information about the activities and costumes.

Fun Activities:

  • Get your family or a group of friends together and go to a haunted house or trail.
  • Have a bonfire and read ghost stories (or scary stories) while roasting marshmallows.
  • Find scary movies that were recently released or your go to movie and binge watch the movies up until Halloween.
  • Go to a pumpkin patch with someone significant to you and pick out a pumpkin or go for fun.
  • Carve a pumpkin (or pumpkins) with your boyfriend, family, or children.

  • Play games such as the murder mystery game or candy corn relay race.
  • Make Halloween themed food.

  • Mummy or Ghost pretzels

Last Minute Halloween Costumes:

Pumpkin Pi

Supplies: black headband, small fake pumpkin, the math symbol or Greek letter pi (π), orange t-shirt, and glue gun

Instructions:

  1. Use the glue gun to attach the fake pumpkin to the headband.
  2. Glue the (π) symbol, whether felt or printed out, to the t-shirt.

That’s it, it’s an adorable and SUPER easy costume to make.

 

Deviled Egg

Supplies: white t-shirt, yellow felt, glue gun, and devil kit

Instructions:

  1. Cut out a yellow circle of felt and glue it to the t-shirt.
  2. Glue the devil tail to the back of the t-shirt.
  3. Wear the devil headband on Halloween to complete the outfit.

It’s such a cute and unique costume.

 

Hawaiian Tourist

Supplies: Hawaiian shirt, straw hat, lei

Instructions:

This one is so easy that no instructions are needed. Just don’t forget your camera to tie the outfit together.

 

Scarecrow

Supplies: hat, flannel shirt, fake sunflowers

Instructions:

Once again, this one doesn’t require instructions. If you would like to go all out with the costume then you can add some makeup that would tie the outfit together even more.

 

Error 404 Code

Supplies: white t-shirt, black marker

Instructions:

  1. Write “Error 404: Costume Not Found.”

It’s as simple as that.

 

 

 

Happiness and Motivation Tips

When I was debating what my next blog post should be about then I decided on a motivational one. I then remembered my video from a little over a year ago that I posted on YouTube. I decided to incorporate that video into this post and write a little about it, which will include the information that’s within the video and new information. If you prefer to read rather than watch a video, then definitely just scroll past the video to see how to be happy and stay motivated.

What is Happiness?

There isn’t a particular definition of happiness. I mean if you look up happiness, then, of course, you’ll find a definition. Everyone has a different perspective of what happiness is and how to be happy.

 

How to Be Happy?

Focus on Yourself and Take Care of Yourself:

Don’t focus on others as much, instead put yourself first. Have good hygiene. Having good hygiene will make you happy because if you’re clean and taking care of yourself, then you’re going to be happier. If you’re just laying around and haven’t showered in days then you just can’t be happy like that. Taking care of yourself can also mean that you should exercise and eat healthier. When you’re taking care of your body then you will feel a whole lot better.

 

Do Things for Others:

Try to make other people smile, whether it’s just a compliment like “you look pretty today” or “your hair looks really good today”. When you bring others up and you see that other person smile when you compliment them, then that’s going to make you happy.

Anytime that I compliment someone and I see their face light up once I give them that compliment, then it means the world to me. Remember that the compliment that you gave that person could be the only good thing that they’ve heard out of anyone’s mouth the whole entire day, week, or even longer. You don’t know what goes on behind closed doors AT ALL. You may think you know what goes on behind closed doors but you do not. That person could be going through a thousand more things than you’re going through. It should make you happier by helping to make someone else happy. It doesn’t necessarily mean that you need to buy things for other people. But if you want to donate to charities, then do that! Do what makes YOU happy.

 

Be Thankful:

Don’t take everything for granted. There are even people who are in high school that I know who have to work their tails off just to be able to have food on the table for their little sisters, little brothers, and their family. Maybe their parent can’t get a job, they may be the caregiver of their parent, or their parent doesn’t make enough money to support the family. Things like what I just shared are very sad, but more families than you realize go through that. We get to sit here and watch youtube videos and read blog posts, while they may be working their tails off just to be able to eat. Think of things like that and be grateful for what you do have. Everyone has those moments where they take things for granted, but just be appreciative for everything you have.

 

Stay Organized & Make Reasonable Goals:

Keeping your room clean or having a planner are ways to stay organized. It will help you to be a happier person because if you’re in a cluttered mess, then you’re just not going to be as happy. Make little goals for yourself each day such as I’m going to start working out every other day. Making goals will motivate you to get up and do things.

 

Surround Yourself with Positivity:

If you hang out with a group of people that are always bringing you down or trying to influence you to do bad things, then you shouldn’t be around those people. Bad things are things that you wouldn’t do if your parents are around and that you wouldn’t want your kids to do. Let those people do their bad things and you move on away from that. Positive people are going to uplift you and go out of their way to do things for you because that’s what friends do. It will make you a lot happier knowing that you have real friends who aren’t trying to influence you to do bad things.

 

Exercise & Eat Healthy:

Exercising refreshes you and when you’re exercising, then you’re not thinking about anything else. It’s a great way to get away from everything. Eating healthy is good for your body, which will ultimately make you feel better. You will notice a huge difference in your mood when you’re getting up and doing things, rather than laying around and not using your time wisely.

The typical definition of motivation is the desire to get something done.

 

How to Be Motivated & Stay Motivated?

Get a Positive Attitude:

Based off of research then happiness increases productivity and successes. I mean research doesn’t lie and it makes perfect sense. When do you tend to procrastinate the most? Exactly, when you’re unhappy. A way to get motivated when you’re not feeling up to do anything is to reward yourself for any progress that you make.

 

Get Rewarded:

Based off of research then rewards are responsible for 75% of why we do things. Always reward yourself when you make progress or complete a task.

Recognizing a Mental Illness

Well, what exactly is a mental illness?

A mental illness is a disease that causes mild to extremely severe disturbances in thought and/or behavior which can get in the way of everyday routines and activities. There are many different forms of mental illnesses. A few of the most common are anxiety, depression, bipolar, and schizophrenia. Symptoms can range from changes in mood, personality, personal habits and/or social withdrawal. Mental illnesses can be caused by a reaction to environmental stresses, genetic factors, biochemical imbalances, or a combination of the things mentioned. People with mental illnesses can learn to cope or recover if the proper care and steps are taken.

 

Symptoms to look out for:

It is very important to take it seriously if you notice a very sudden change in yours or your family member’s thoughts and behaviors.

The following are symptoms that are geared toward mental illness as a whole, not a particular one.

Young Children:

  • changes in school performance
  • changes in sleeping and/or eating habits
  • being extremely hyper
  • excessively worrying
  • persistent nightmares
  • persistent aggression and misbehaving
  • frequent temper tantrums

Older Children and Pre-Adolescents:

  • substance use
  • changes in sleeping and/or eating habits
  • excessive complaints of physical ailments
  • changes in ability to manage responsibilities
  • breaking the law (being defiant)
  • intense fear
  • prolonged negative mood, which could be accompanied by poor appetite or thoughts of death
  • frequent outbursts of anger

Adults, Young Adults, and Adolescents:

  • confused thinking
  • prolonged irritability or sadness (depression)
  • feelings of extreme highs and lows
  • excessive fears and worries
  • social withdrawal
  • dramatic changes in eating and/or sleeping habits
  • strong feelings of anger
  • strange thoughts
  • hallucinations (seeing or hearing things that aren’t there)
  • inability to cope with daily problems and activities
  • suicidal thoughts
  • numerous unexplained physical ailments
  • substance use

The things that I shared above are ways to recognize if you or a person that you know have a mental illness and the symptoms to look out for.

Remember that if you notice even just two or three of the symptoms, then it could be the start of the illness and do NOT take it lightly. It’s better to go ahead and bring it up to your doctor to find out ways to cope with the illness or better yet, stop it before it gets worse and take control of your brain. Remember that your brain is very powerful. Once you bring it up to your doctor then you could also find out that it may just be related to the stress level in your life and it could be temporary, which of course would mean that you need to try to reduce the stress in your life. Stress is something that is hard to avoid, but it should be limited as much as possible.

Never hesitate to reach out to at least one person for help or just to have someone to express your feelings to. I am a person who deals with anxiety every single day and it’s not something that is easy to go through, but I have learned to cope with it and I am still learning coping methods. I’ve been so thankful for the people in my life because I have always had someone to talk to about the things that I go through and it is what has really helped me to deal with anxiety. I want others to have someone that they can talk to that won’t judge them and will be there for them like my boyfriend and family have been there for me.
